Dating back to 300AD, North East Tower of the Caer Gybi Roman Fort was in need for a new viewing platform to enhance residents and visitor’s engagement to the historic site in Holyhead, Wales. Appointed by Isle of Anglesey County Council, Aura Heritage Limited’s team designed and built the sympathetic restoration and extension of this tower keeping with its history.
Isle of Anglesey County Council also appointed Aura to complete a full refurbishment of Swift Square public conveniences, located at Cybi Church in Holyhead Wales. From demolition to design and installation of the new facilities, Aura worked closely alongside the client and its other appointed experts to quality assure the projects competition.
Restoration of North East Tower of Caer Gybi Roman Fort in Swift Square, Holyhead in Wales
Aura’s team of heritage restoration experts installed a contemporary style steel viewing platform to NE Tower of Cear Gybi Roman Fort in Holyhead, Wales to provide a beautiful view of the historic Church of St Cybi, Fort settings, the harbour and Irish Sea to residents and visitors.
Starting the restoration works to NE Tower in Holyhead, Wales in 2022, Aura committed to completing the project on schedule, regardless the weather conditions, and to the high standards we are known for. With the tower being one of Europe’s three walled Roman forts, it was crucial to both the client and Aura that works were completed with great care and attention.
Delicate restoration works included:
- Clearing rubble, wreckage, ruins & overall debris
- Design & installation of new steel gate & viewing platform for tourists to safely enjoy
- Repair & replacement of decayed stone
- Applying lime mortar for pointing to allow the structure to breathe
